Weather Message
Barnwell County School District has been closely monitoring the weather and the forecast for severe conditions tomorrow, Monday, March 16th. After receiving the latest updates a few minutes ago from the National Weather Service and coordinating with Barnwell County Emergency Management, Barnwell County School District will operate as an eLearning Day tomorrow, March 16th. Families should look for additional information being shared directly from their child’s school (through ParentSquare) regarding eLearing expectations.
Widespread, significant severe weather is expected across our area on Monday, and our area has been upgraded to an Enhanced Risk level. In addition, forecasted wind speeds (e.g., damaging [60 mph] to destructive [75+ mph]) are expected to far exceed the safety threshold for our buses to travel. This creates concerns not only for transportation during the day across Barnwell County, but also for the afternoon hours when some of the most severe impacts are expected during dismissal times. Last, some strong tornadoes (EF2+) could develop due to this weather event.
All after-school activities scheduled for Monday are also canceled.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for our families, but the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.
Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.
